Father Damien
1840-1889
Father Damiaan is declared a saint on October 11,
2009.
The second miracle of healing on his influence
has been recognized as truth after 10 years of
research.
We knew Father Damian was a saint for a long time.
So knew the people of the USA since many years,
by placing his statue in the National Statuary Hall
in Washington DC long ago.
In thankful remembrance
Father Damiaan followed his people into the same death.
Praying to Father
Damiaan is bringing miracles.
Blessed (and soon
Holy) Damien of Moloka'i
was ordained
priest in May 1864
in the church at
Fort Mall, Honolulu.
Picture made by Robert in Honolulu
In 1873 he went
out of free choice
to the leper
settlement of Moloka'i.
He arrived on May
10 at Kalaupapa.
May 10 is Father
Damien day on Hawaii.
He died April 15,
1889, himself sharing the fate of the others.
He is one of the
heroes of the USA
with his statue in
the National Statuary Hall
of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The great Mahatma Ghandi wrote:
The political
and journalistic world can boast
of very few
heroes who compare with Father Damien of Moloka'i.
In Honolulu
(Waikiki) is a modest museum
of his personal
belongings.
On December 1,
2005 the Belgium people voted
Father Damien
to be the greatest
of all.
Father Damiaan was
declared beatified
after Sister
Simplicie Hue (37) was miraculously healed of
her deadly
intestine disease overnight.
The miracle
happened in 1987 and the miracle dossier was
recognized as true
in 1992.
The
second miracle has been decrlared true!
Pope Benedict has
recognized the truth of the miracle dossier
on July 3, 2008
after the dossier was completed as true on April 30, 2008.
The miracle
happened in 1998.
Mrs. Audrey Toguchi (79) was
healed of fatal lung cancer, spread all over.
It took her four months to heal after she went
praying to Father Damian
in his place at Kalaupapa, Moloka'i.
Mrs Toguchi has been for 44 years High School
Teacher of Social Studies.
Mrs. Toguchi was very happy to hear that her
miracle has been recognized.
His birthday was January 3, 1840
Father Damien with
the Kawalao girls choir 1875.
